Publishing, Books & Reading in Sub-Saharan Africa – Online database

PRESS RELEASE

A unique online database and ongoing analysis of   publishing and the book sector in Sub-Saharan Africa

Hans Zell Publishing continues to update the online database of their much acclaimed reference resource Publishing, Books & Reading in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Critical Bibliography

http://www.hanszell.co.uk/pbrssa/index.shtml

first published in print format in 2008, and constantly updated thereafter. It offers access to a database that has now grown to almost 2,700 records at this time, making it the most comprehensive documentation, and ongoing analysis, of the state of the book sector and the “book chain” in Africa.

The database is updated and expanded with many new entries three or four times a year, all with abstracts or critical annotations, and covering books, articles, studies, reports, theses, and Internet documents that have been published since the cut-off date of the (761 pp.) 2008 print edition. Select blog postings, as well as video recordings and radio/TV broadcasts are now also included on a regular basis. Additionally, frequent updates are made to listings of organizations and African book professional associations, and agencies, networks, book charities, etc. supporting the book and information sector in Africa.

The searchable database covers all aspects of book publishing and the book sector in Africa, including book marketing and distribution and the retail book trade. Additionally, there are a numerous citations on more specialist areas, such as publishing for children, journals and magazine publishing, scholarly publishing, publishing in African languages, publishing of African writers and African literature, and a rapidly growing section on digital media and electronic publishing in Africa. There are also many sections on related aspects of book development, for example copyright, reading culture and reading promotion, and more.

Access to the database is available at a subscription charge of £65.00/€97.50/$130.00, providing subscribers with online access for a period of two years from date of registration, renewable for further two-year periods thereafter. Access can be via ID and password, or via IP address recognition for customers requiring this.
