Africa Utopia Festival, 10-13 September 2015

The Africa Utopia Festival takes place at the Southbank Centre, London, from Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th September 2015. The Festival, now in its third year, celebrates Africa’s arts and culture and features a range of musicians, a new play about migrants, talks, debates and workshops, a marketplace and African street food. ELIAS meeting in Paris

The annual meeting of ELIAS (European Librarians in African Studies) took place on Tuesday 7th July at the Bibliothèque Universitaire des Langues et Civilisations, Paris.  Thirty-three librarians from eight countries gathered for a tour of BULAC, two keynote addresses, short thematic contributions on the theme of Special Collections and country presentations.

The 2016 annual meeting will take place in Tervuren, Belgium.

 

Photographic exhibition of Ethiopian church wall paintings at ASC Leiden

An exhibition of photographs of colourful wall paintings in Northern Ethiopian churches is on display in the African Studies Centre Library, Leiden, until 1st July 2015. The photographs were taken by Pieter de Kleer and the paintings, which are several hundred years old, show scenes from the Old and New Testaments and from the history of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.
